All About 20/20 Vision

Most have us have had an eye exam at one point in our lives. We have sat in front of the chart that holds the one large letter, and the lines of letters that gradually get smaller. Do you know what being able to read these letters means? Do you know what it means to have 20/20 vision?

Our vision is very important. Some people put off going to the eye doctor to get their eyes checked because they think their eyes are fine. However, going to the eye doctor regularly is important; especially if changes happen, in which they have previous exams to compare the newest problem to. They can see where your eyes start to make a downward turn, and better find out why. 20/20 vision is considered the best vision to have amongst humans, with the exception of some who might have a bit better vision at 20/10, which is rare.

What 20/20 vision means is that when you stand 20 feet away from the chart and read every line, you can see what a normal person should be able to see at 20 feet. If you were to have 20/40 vision, this means that you have the vision of what a 20/20 person would have reading the chart at 40 feet away. It is a good thing to have 20/20 vision without glasses, because this means that your eyes are strong and healthy. Today, contacts and glasses can aid people in getting their 20/20 vision back, but more people are turning to Lasik eye surgery to do that. With the surgery, doctors can recreate the 20/20 vision you may have lost. Then you are able to see 20/20 without your glasses or contacts.

Taking good care of your eyes, not straining them, and resting them properly, will all help keep your vision stronger. Especially if you want to keep your 20/20 vision.
