Non-surgical treatment of vision problems is an attractive alternative to those who are not good candidates for Lasik or PRK treatments.
The standard treatment for poor vision, of course, is glasses. Anyone can wear glasses and anyone can afford glasses. The drawbacks are that glasses are often uncomfortable, easily misplaced and restrict your field of vision. A new method for actually correcting your vision is to use laser vision glasses. These glasses look like sunglasses, but have precisely placed, laser-drilled pinholes in them. Wearing these glasses for thirty minutes a day has been shown to actually improve vision after you remove them
Another non-surgical way to correct your vision is with contact lenses. Wearing contact lenses can correct almost any vision impairment. They even have contacts for people with astigmatisms, and bi-focal lenses for farsightedness. There are also hard plastic contact lenses that can be worn at night to actually reshape your natural lens. You wear the contacts at night while you are sleeping, then take them out in the morning for perfect vision all day.
Placement of an intraocular lens is a minimally invasive procedure that has been used with great success in treating people with cataracts. This method was next used to treat people with severe myopia with great success. By replacing the natural lens with an artificial one, vision was improved to the point where no glasses were needed. Now, it is being used to treat far-sighted people as well as near-sighted people, and also to treat severe astigmatism.
