Good Vision Supplements

Parents always say to eat your carrots and you'll have good eyesight. Carrots do contain beta-carotene. Your body converts that into vitamin A which is important for healthy eyesight. So eating carrots will only help if you are deficient in vitamin A.

A combination of high levels of vitamins A, C and E along with zinc are antioxidants that can reduce macular degeneration and the loss of vision. Research shows that vitamin A protects against blindness, vitamin C may prevent glaucoma, and the fatty acids help alleviate dry eyes and guard against macular damage. Eating a balanced diet of fish, vegetables, especially green leafy ones, citrus fruits, and berries, along with nuts can give you enough eye-protecting nutrients.

There are also some herbal supplements that are effective with eye problems. Bilberry helps the retina to adjust quickly from darkness to light. It can improve nearsightedness and visual acuity. It also stops the progression of cataracts. An added bonus is that it may lower cholesterol. Grape seed is good for peripheral vision and can strengthen the capillaries. Eyebright can be made into a tea and cooled. It can then be used as an eye bath or a compress. It has an anti-inflammatory and soothing action that will ease the discomfort of sore eyes. Lutein is a plant nutrient known as carotenoid. This nutrient gives fruit and vegetables their deep colors. Lutein is a concentrated nutrient in the macula of the eye, so taking it as a supplement helps prevent macular degeneration. Chamomile tea bags and iced milk can both be used as a compress for sore eyes.

There are many problems related to eyes. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to bring a little relief.
