Alternatives to Lasik Eye Surgery

The procedure that will correct one’s eye sight and therefore reduce the necessity of them having to wear glasses is called Lasik eye surgery. But there are alternatives available other than this type of surgery. While this surgery has increasingly become more popular, there are those who don’t want to have a surgical procedure.

One alternative to having Lasik eye surgery is to just simply wear eye glasses or contacts to correct your vision. This is the one choice that people commonly choose to do. This method is more cost efficient and more convenient for most people. Still other people may choose to have a Lensectomy which is an intraocular implanting of a lens in the eye. With this procedure the natural lens of the eye is removed and the new lens takes its place. Another choice people have other than Lasik eye surgery is to have Intracormeal rings, which are plastic inserts placed right into the cornea of the eye. The rings will flatten the central cornea as a way of correcting a person's sight that is nearsighted. With this procedure the rings can be removed from the eye.

Another procedure that one can choose to have other than the Lasik eye surgery is to have a Keratectomy, which means that the patient will have a longer healing time but this procedure does not have the same risk as the Lasik surgery carries. This procedure means that the patient will have to have more patience and therapy after the procedure is completed. This procedure is better for people that have thinner corneas or have dryer eyes.
