Lasik eye surgery is said to be the latest and greatest in eye surgery. The advantages are many but going through the surgery is certainly something that needs to be thought about carefully.
One of the main advantages is that the person is able to improve their eyesight without prescription glasses or contact lenses depending on type of surgery performed. Though this is not an end-all, answer-to-all surgery, it can be most effective if done in a timely manner. That is to say that the person has not already further damaged their vision by an infection caused by unclean contacts. Hopefully, they get to the surgery before the heavy glass frames and lens have left a permanent mark at the bridge of their nose.
Another advantage of Lasik is the overall potential of money saved. The surgery may permanently repair one’s vision for a one time fee. However, a person who wears glasses may have to purchase several pairs of glasses due to them being broken or lost which are sometimes expensive, depending on the prescription. Lasik eye surgery can run anywhere from $1000 to $3000 while a pair of glasses can cost $400 each.
Aside from the potential money saved, the aesthetic value is always a plus. Sometimes people find it a burden to have to wear bulky glasses because they feel as though it takes away from their natural beauty. Glasses can even add to someone’s stigma by enhancing an already large nose or enlarging eyes with the thick lens. The advantages appear to outweigh the disadvantages but, nevertheless, due diligence is stressed and recommended.
