Non-Surgical Eye Treatment

The longest used non-surgical vision correction is eye glasses. More recently, these have been modified into what people know now as contact lenses. In both cases, lens material of either glass or plastic is shaped by molding or grinding to correct the vision problem of the patient.

Contact lenses come in two main categories: oxygen permeable rigid and soft lenses made from plastics that contain water. Your choice may be affected by which of the many types available, such as bifocals, extended wear, disposable, or maybe toric lenses made for those with astigmatism. This is only a partial list.

Laser therapy is becoming a popular non-surgical method to reshape the cornea to correct some vision problems. This is especially popular with older people who are experiencing focusing problems because the material of the eye lens and cornea become more rigid over time.

There is also something called The Program for Better Vision promoted by the Cambridge Institute for Better Vision. This program is a collection of well researched and tested eye exercises that are designed to correct vision problems such as near-sightedness, far-sightedness, light sensitivity, lazy eye, burning eyes, headaches, astigmatism, loss of focus, and others.

After working with over a quarter of a million patients, Cambridge has selected the exercises that provide the best results for each particular ailment. The patient needs to spend only 15 to 20 minutes each day doing the exercises. This is less than half the time needed for competing programs that Cambridge says have less effective programs.
