Lasik Surgery Alternatives

Many people go through Lasik eye surgery to correct vision. However, there are those who do not want the risks involved with this treatment. For those people, there are alternatives to Lasik eye surgery.

Some common alternatives are wearing glasses or contact lenses. Another option may be I.C.L., which stands for implantable contact lenses. This is where a contact lens is implanted in the eye. One advantage of this over Lasik surgery is that the lens can be removed and replaced, should the need arise for any reason.

Another option may be what is called Ortho-K. This is a safe treatment in which you wear the Ortho-K contact lens during the night. Your vision is corrected while you sleep, letting you awake with clear vision. This is done by flattening the cornea of the eye with a lens. Another reason this is safe is that it is reversible.

Conductive Keratoplasty, or C.K., is another alternative where radio waves are used to reshape the eye. There is no invasive procedure involved with this alternative. Another option is a treatment where the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens implant. For those who prefer wearing contact lenses, there are lenses available that can be worn for longer periods of time, for up to thirty days, before needing replacing.

With the risks involved with the procedure of Lasik eye surgery, some people may not be good candidates for the treatment. For those who are not good candidates for the surgery, or for those who prefer not to have Lasik, there are many alternatives available.
