The Downside Of Lasik Surgery

Lasik Eye Surgery is a vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea; thus, allowing the light that travels through it to properly focus on the retina. The procedure is fairly quick and easy, causes little pain and improved vision is noticeable the same day or the day after. There is no need for bandages or stitches. However, this procedure is not for everyone. The first eye correction procedure was performed in 1948, and of course significant improvements have been made since. Lasik Eye Surgery is the procedure to correct near or farsightedness and astigmatism. First and foremost, individuals need to ensure they are a good candidate for these procedures. It takes proper screening and education. This procedure can have its rewards, but also its drawbacks.

Any changes made to a cornea cannot be reversed and if further surgery is required, it's going to be costly. Corrective surgery runs approximately $,2200, per eye. That's the first negative aspect. Some of the others are seeing halos around lights in the evening, vision might worsen, infection could set in, blurred vision could occur and dry eyes can ache. Aching dry eyes could be serious enough to affect the corneas, if left untreated. The FDA reported that some people were no longer able to drive at night after having the surgery. The FDA warns that improved vision may not be permanent, especially for people that regularly wear glasses. In these cases, glasses will most likely still be required.

It's highly recommended that prior to having Lasik Surgery performed, that people do their homework on this subject. Other factors to consider are health, eye condition and age.
