When deciding on correcting your vision with Lasik all options must be considered. There are always advantages and disadvantages to every decision that you make. Upon making your decision you are mainly focusing on all the positive things that will come out of the procedure, but the disadvantages must also be considered.
When deciding on something as important as your vision all things must be considered and the disadvantages are often overlooked. Most people are focused on the fact that they will never have to wear those glasses or contacts ever again. What people do not think about is the fact that many times the insurance companies will not pay for your surgery since it is cosmetic and the Lasik can be pretty expensive.
After the surgery you could potentially need further surgeries to correct your vision. The vision is not always corrected fully the first time. You could be left seeing things that were not there prior to the surgery such as circles of light when looking at objects, difficulty seeing things at night, and your vision may go in and out of clarity.
Another disadvantage to consider is that when you are in the surgery things could happen such as when the flap is cut on your eyes. This could lead to lasting eye problems. You may end up messing up the eye worse than when you started the procedure.
Most importantly, the surgery is irreparable. After having the surgery people may still have to end up using glasses or contacts since the results are not lasting.
Getting Lasik eye surgery does not mean that you will get perfect results and perfect vision. By researching the advantages and disadvantages you can see that it is not all that it is cracked up to be. Make sure to do your research before doing anything drastic to your eyes.
