LensCrafters is an eyewear store, with over 850 outlets in Canada, North America and Puerto Rico. LensCrafters was founded in 1983 by E. Dean Butler, who was a manger for Proctor and Gamble. Lenscrafters was sold to U.S Shoe Company in 1985. It was then taken over and is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian firm of Luxotica. Luxotica also owns Pearle Vision, J. C. Penny Optical, Target Optical and Eye-Med. They also own SunGlass Hut. The corporate headquarters for LensCrafters is in Mason, Ohio, which is near Cincinnati.
LensCrafters sells frames and lenses. If you have a current prescription, you can get glasses or contacts there. If you buy a standard size frame with single vision lenses, you can generally get your glasses in about an hour. This is what made them famous. However, if you want bi-focals, transition lenses, progressive lenses, UV coating or scratch-resistance coating, you can expect to wait about two weeks to get them. Contact lenses take about a week to come in, once they are ordered.
Most LensCrafters have an independent optometrist on-site, and all stores are at least adjacent to an optometrist who works with them. This makes it convenient to see the optometrist, get your prescription, and then get your contacts or glasses, all in one trip. You can also access your prescription at any LensCrafters. If you are away from home and lose your contacts or break your glasses, you can get them at any LensCrafters store location.
