Negative Effects of Lasik

Are you considering Lasik surgery? Do you have all the facts? While we are all aware of the benefits of Lasik surgery with the reward of being contact and glasses free for the rest of our lives, what about the negative side effects? Lasik is a surgical procedure done on the eye that allows you to see with corrected vision without the use of contact lens or glasses. Lasik is the abbreviation for Laser In Keratomileusis. The result of this surgery is 20/20 vision for the patient.

Now for a look at the negative side effects. The most common of all side effects is dry eyes. While this does not seem to be a large side effect, chronic dry eye can be very debilitating and affect a person’s quality of life. The other common side effects are the occurrence of halos or even blinding lights at night, which cause serious impairment to night vision. It is a common side effect of the Lasik procedure that a patient’s night vision may be altered or permanently impaired after surgery.

It is very important that you research the doctor establishing your diagnosis and performing the Lasik procedure as an incorrect diagnosis can lead to a host of problems. Lasik surgery is based on the diagnosis of your vision and that diagnosis must be accurate. Patients with incorrect diagnoses have gone on to suffer from visual disturbances like the halos, glares and/or double vision post the procedure. Of coarse there is also the common side effect of double vision.

If you truly wish to get rid of your current method of vision correction and are seriously considering Lasik as an option, research along with a proper diagnosis can help make that decision a successful one.
