Eye Drops

Eye drops are saline-based solutions used to help clear up minor eye irritations. These solutions, when paired with medicine, can also help make certain eye conditions better. There are several different kinds sold in stores today.

Medicines like steroids, antihistamines, topical anesthetics, and some non-prescription medications can be applied as drops to help treat eye infections. They also help to stop and dull pain from conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic-related conditions.

Artificial tears, another type of eye drop, are used to coat and lubricate the eye. These drops are either a watery solution or a thicker gel-like solution. They help stop the scratches and irritation that occur with dry eyes. Some brand names sold today are Allergan and Refresh, to name a couple.

Decongestants, another type of eye drop, are good for reducing redness. They help to hydrate the eye so that tears are formed naturally. The redness and irritation of dry eyes are caused by various allergens such as dust, dander, pollen, and so forth.

Some eye drops help ophthalmologists dilate the pupil so that they can get a clear picture of the eye. They are trying to verify that the person isn’t going blind or unable to see due to any type of illness.

Contact lenses tend to dry out a person’s eye fairly easily. There are eye drops made specifically for contact lens wearers to help hydrate the eye. They also keep the eye and contact lenses clean and moist while they are being worn.

So as you can see, there are various kinds of eye drops on the market today to treat a wide variety of conditions.
