Seeing is a very important part of life that we often take for granted. Being able to see with an eyesight of 20/20 is ideal for human beings. A vision of 20/20 means that you are able to read a set size of numbers or symbols from 20 feet away from the chart.
The first 20 stands for the distance that you are from the chart while reading. The second represents the size of the numbers or symbols on the chart. A pilot must be able to read at the 20/20 line of any chart in order to get his/her license to fly a plane.
Visual acuity is the term used in reference to the measuring the power to see objects at certain distances. There are many jobs that will set an eye test in measuring your visual acuity to their own standards. This is to make sure that your eye sight is good enough to do the job you’re being hired for.
Simply said, the term 20/20 is how doctors can determine the sharpness and the clarity that one will see at different sizes from 20 feet away. Upon getting an eye exam, all doctors will perform a standard test at this distance. The lower the bottom number is, the better you can see. Someone that has a higher lower number, cannot see as well. Doctors will tell you that your eye is relaxed and able to see better at 20 feet because your eye will also maintain normal shape.
