The Disadvantages of Lasik Eye Surgery

Lasik surgery is intended to correct several different vision problems like nearsightedness and farsightedness. Many people today are turning to Lasik eye surgery because they want their vision corrected, and have high-hopes that it will be with the procedure. They do not like having to wear either contacts or glasses on a day-to-day basis, and would rather go through a surgical procedure if they think it will give them better vision.

Lasik surgery is just like any other surgery in that there are risks, possible complications, and side effects. With Lasik surgery, the basis of the procedure is to correct visual problems, which means that the doctor will be operating on the eye. The doctor is either correcting nearsightedness or farsightedness, and because it is a very delicate surgery, there can be damage made to the eye. Most common problems after the surgery, however, are seeing a halo around objects or glare, which in most cases, should go away after a certain time. For some patients, it can continue on and be a nuisance for the patient.

The doctor has to cut a flap open in the cornea to do the corrective part of the procedure. One of the other disadvantages of the procedure is that if the flap does not heal correctly, the surgeon will have to go back in and correct the damaged flap.

Although there are many positive aspects to Lasik surgery, such as corrected vision if everything goes as planned, there can also be disadvantages. Lasik surgery is a surgery, and requires medication to be taken after the procedure, as well as regular visits to the doctor. If those are the only two drawbacks, it might be something to consider.
