Lasik eye surgery has been around for many years. It is the procedure of operating on the lens of the eye to correct vision problems. There are a lot of good benefits from having Lasik eye surgery, if you are a good candidate, and if the surgery goes as planned. If you do not have any complications from the surgery, there can be great results, including that there will no longer be any need for glasses or contacts. But, if you are not a good candidate, and the doctor thinks there is a great chance for complications, the doctor might recommend an alternative.
One of the alternatives is a Lens Replacement procedure. This is more commonly done in patients with problems with presbyopia, a near-sighted condition. Patients with significant nearsightedness, may also benefit more with Lens Replacement surgery, rather than Lasik surgery. Another alternative is an intraocular lens where the lenses are surgically put in place directly over the natural lens. These are light-weight, and patients do not even know they have them in their eyes, yet they do not have to remove them to clean them, or take care of them, because they are surgically installed.
Not every person is a great candidate for Laser Eye surgery. Only a physician can tell a person if they are or not. But there are alternatives to Laser Eye surgery, even if it includes just wearing regular contacts and glasses. Sometimes, the inconvenience of wearing the contacts and glasses is a better bet if the doctor thinks there could be greater risk with performing a surgery.
